women’s confrontation
On Sunday, a dramatic confrontation erupted at a hotel pool in Sacramento, California. A group of five women confronted a black lesbian couple for kissing while kids were around. The shocked onlookers then reacted against them. A lesbian couple was chastised for kissing in front of kids, and a group of women was forced out of the pool as a result. A video of the incident’s aftermath, which took place at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel, went viral.
Domonique Veasley’s incident
34-year-old Domonique Veasley was at the hotel pool with a female friend. She claimed that they were kissing, just like every other couple at the hotel who were engaging in the same behavior.
About six seconds into it, according to Veasley, she received a small tap saying “excuse me,” and when she looked up, the woman’s head was right there.
“She’s like, “I have children in the pool.” I’ve been in education for the past 13 years, so my initial reaction was ‘Oh yeah,’ and then it dawned on me what she was asking me to do.” Veasley stated that she told the woman that she understood where she was coming from. She joked that when she was younger, she saw a lesbian couple kissing and said, “You know, here I am now.” She further said that the woman did not seem happy with his answer.
Hopes the women in the video learned something from the experience. “I’m sure an encounter isn’t my first and won’t be my last, but it can be a teachable moment,” she said. “That, in my opinion, is significant. If you are not learning from every moment and every encounter, no matter how easy, difficult, or uncomfortable it is, you are not moving through this world trying to be better.” Veasley went on to say that she believed the woman’s remarks to be racially motivated as well. Veasley was the target of the woman’s criticism because his partner was white.
A woman used children as a scapegoat
Veasley claimed that the main reason it was disappointing was that she used her kids as a scapegoat to conceal her bigotry. It might have provided her with a fantastic learning opportunity. Veasley went on to say that she believed the woman’s remarks to be racially motivated as well. Veasley was the target of the woman’s criticism because his partner was white.
According to Veasley, she and her friend immediately disassociated themselves from the group of mothers and kids. The woman didn’t appear to approach any of the other straight couples who were also cuddling by the hotel pool, though, in her opinion. In the now-viral video, Wesley spoke with hotel security standing outside the hotel pool.
Group shouted at the escorted women
A group of bystanders shouted “shame” as the group that complained was escorted out of the hotel pool area by the hotel security.
But the women didn’t leave quietly. The woman yelled at onlookers who made offensive remarks to the lesbian couple. A few women hurried away, but before one of them did, another confronted the onlookers and gave the camera the middle finger.
“Do you guys have kids?” The woman yells at the cameraman. Because you wouldn’t make a good father.
Later, they asserted that they had a problem with the couple not because of their gender but rather because of what appeared to be body activity between them.
Arthur Kaligos’ thoughts
Arthur Kaligos, the man behind the cell phone video, stated that he wanted to speak up for Veasley. Kaligos is a gay man. So it doesn’t sit well with him at all. He stated that because it is Pride Month, something was triggered within him, and he wanted to come to the young couple’s defense. Kaligos said it was upsetting to watch the incident unfold while he was filming it. He stated that they had seen this before. It is not acceptable to ask others to change their behavior for your convenience.
Statement by Sawyers’ Manager
The general manager of The Sawyer Hotel Pool, Nikki Carlson, issued a statement in which she stated, “The Sawyer does not support verbal abuse of any kind, including discrimination.” Over the holiday weekend, there was a regrettable argument between guests at our pool; the problem is solved.
Final Words
A gay couple is chastised by a group of women for kissing in front of children, then the women are kicked out of a hotel pool. A few people in the pool described it as a “shame”. But the women did not leave quietly. Gallegos made a video of the incident that went viral.
