Impact of being a single parent:
Life in a single-parent house can be stressful enough for both the kid and the single mother or single father. The single parent may feel overwhelmed by the responsibilities of children, doing a job, and maintaining household chores. And the family’s luxurious life and investments are highly reduced if a single parent carries a house. And the single parent has no one to talk to about all the worries he or she is having following the worrisome routine.
Four friends decided to have a common house:
After having a difficult time in life, four friends who were raising their kids alone decided to buy a house together where they can look after their kids while sharing the responsibilities.
The main speaker Holly Harper told about her divorce after 17 years of getting married. After seeing the hard challenges of life, she asked her friend, Herrin Hooper, who was a single mother too, if could agree to have a common house. They added two more of their friends in the same state and bought a four-unit building house in Maryland with their kids between 9-14 years of age.
Siren House:
Harper told about her interests in an essay for INSIDER, that she always loved the shows of women living together, supporting each other, and having happy lives like ‘the facts of Life’ and ‘the golden girls’, etc. She also told that they decided what kind of house they want to have for their kids before they bought it for real. They wanted a space where they can live together yet have complete privacy too. So they had a house near the public transit and a playground where their children can easily go to play. They named their house ‘siren house’ related to stories of mermaids seducing fishermen with their siren song.
Trump cards of living together:
So now they are dependent on so many matters of their lives. They feel a kind of spiritual safety with each other. One of the mothers, Hopper, told me that they all can see my worst and the best parts and we’re glad to have our backs with each other no matter what! There are pros and cons to everything of course. so sometimes it becomes difficult to sort out the belongings and stuff of all the children when they get mixed. But the advantages of this pattern overweight any negative aspects. The observers and the audience can not even mention more disadvantages too when it comes to draughting children altogether.
Sharing a loving environment:
They are having fun in the time of their lives while taking care of the kids. They do a monthly champagne party while having a meeting where they discuss household repairs and all the stuff that needs attention. Hopper told in an essay that they never had this happier phase in their lives while they do car-sharing and carpooling. They always do small favors to each other unknowingly, do dog-walking, having to share their expenditures and finances, they don’t feel alone anymore because they have shoulders to cry on and have hugs and feel loved and safe like a proper family having a home sharing bittersweet memories.
Challenges of life:
Brought up their children together by being a single parent, they aren’t letting the lack of that positive relationship that their kids need to feel safe and loved. They are spending the quality time that is important for their children’s growth. Children with single parents have more mental and behavioral health problems, disrupted brain development, educational problems, employment challenges in adulthood and more. Children from these families often live in communities with limited access to quality health care, comprehensive support services, and enriching activities. They feel a sense of leaving behind and lacking interest in all aspects of life and people. But Holly Harper, Herrin Hopper, and their two single-parent friends made their lives alot easier and have protected them from all the above problems by having to live in a common house sharing a comfortable loving environment and they have never had a peaceful period in their lives.
