The Aquaman 2 famed actress Amber Heard seeks to appeal the June verdict in her high-profile defamation case against Johnny Depp.
The legal team representing Aquaman 2 actress argued that the ruling was flawed. Elaine Bredehoft, Ms Heard’s attorney, stated in a Virginia court on Friday that the case got closed on flawed legal logic. The Aquaman famous actress’s legal team claimed the ruling was improperly vetted and contained excessive awarded damages.

The dispute between the actors grew beyond a simple defamation proceeding during the trial, which ran from April to June. The case was also a hot topic online. In a split verdict, a seven-member civil jury ruled in favour of Mr Depp last month. The jury determined that Aquaman 2 actress Ms Heard had defamed Depp in an article published in The Washington Post in 2018. However, she didn’t mention Depp’s name but insinuated that he had abused her in the post.

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are not at peace. The Aquaman 2 star’s legal team has called for a new trial. On Friday, July 1, 2022, Heard’s lawyer filed a 43-page petition to the Virginia court. The heard logged a request asking jurors in the highly publicized defamation case to overturn or dismiss the ruling. Or else go for a new trial against Johnny Depp.
Last month the final ruling was in favour of Depp. And Aquaman lead actress Amber Heard is ordered to pay $15 million to the Pirates of the Caribbean star for damages. As per her claims she made indirectly over him in a 2018 Washington Post editorial.
Elaine Bredehoft claimed there wasn’t enough evidence to support the claims of Depp. Therefore, Heard’s awarded payment is excessive. The Aquaman 2 actress’s attorney argued the editorial did not cause Depp’s damages. Depp’s legal team focused on events back in 2016.

Following the ruling in June, the spokesperson for Heard’s Alafair Hall announced plans to appeal in a statement sent to The New York Times. However, initially, the appeal bases were not clear, but now, after she has logged the file, it’s all clear.
Heard clarified that she was unhappy with the results from the court trial in an announcement made public after the decision. She tweeted the day following the ruling, stating that she was disappointed. Amber Heard claimed that the pieces of evidence presented at the court weren’t enough to hold my stance firm. She tweeted her feelings with the words of disappointment, undue power, and the influences of Depp.
The lawyer for Depp, however, has dismissed the appeal. The attorney said to Courthouse News that the request is as expected, more prolonged and no more significant.

The supporters who were supportive of Heard were also loud on social media but mainly were drowned out by Depp’s fans. A few of them even cheered on Depp in person at the courthouse. After the verdict was read, Depp was seen thanking the jury for allowing him to get his “life back.”
