History of King Charles III
Charles was born in Buckingham Palace during his maternal grandfather’s reign, George VI, and was three years old when his mother, Elizabeth II, ascended to the throne, making him the heir apparent. He became the Prince of Wales in 1958, and his investiture took place in 1969. He attended Cheam and Gordonstoun schools. Charles served in the Royal Air Force and Navy for five years, from 1971 to 1976, after completing a Bachelor of Arts degree.
He married Lady Diana Spencer in 1981, and they had two sons, William, Prince of Wales, and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex. After having well-publicized extramarital relationships, the
couple divorced in 1996. Diana died the next year as a result of injuries incurred in a car crash. Charles married Camilla Parker Bowles, his long-term partner, in 2005.
After his mother died on September 8, 2022, Charles became king. After being the longest-serving heir apparent and Prince of Wales in British history, Charles became the oldest person to succeed the British king at the age of 73. On May 6, 2023, he was crowned at Westminster Abbey.
Coronation of King Charles III
The event took place on May 6, over eight years after Queen Elizabeth II passed away and just before the monarch’s coronation’s 70th anniversary. While she took the crown on February 6, 1952, the late queen wasn’t officially crowned until June 2, 1953, following a period of mourning for her father, King George VI, a custom that King Charles decided to continue.
Visitors started to assemble at Westminster Abbey around 9 a.m., and at 10.20 a.m., the King Charles III procession left Buckingham Palace. King Charles coronation did not break in any significant way from the traditional pattern, at least in the sense that British coronations had taken place at Westminster Abbey for the last 900 years. At 11 a.m, the coronation ritual got underway and went off without a hitch. After that, at 1 p.m, the King boarded the Gold Stage Coach and traveled back to Buckingham Palace, where he appeared on the balcony with the other royals in front of adoring crowds.
Queen Consort Camilla was crowned along with King Charles III.
When Charles succeeded to the throne in 2022, Camilla was crowned with her husband, according to Queen Elizabeth II’s proclamation that it was her “sincere wish” that she assume the title of Queen Consort. Since the Queen Mother was crowned in 1937, she is the first consort to be crowned.
Royal family members attended the coronation ceremony.
The whole Wales family, including King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla, attended the coronation, with Prince George serving as one of the service’s guests of honor. Kate, William, and George were accompanied by Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis as they rode in the carriage procession from the ceremony back to Buckingham Palace. While the Duchess of Sussex stayed at home in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, the Duke of Sussex visited but kept a low profile.
Who was invited to King Charles III’s coronation?
On May 6, more than 2,000 people came to Westminster Abbey for King Charles coronation. They included notable politicians from the Commonwealth and beyond, members of the royal family (as well as members of other royal families from across the world), and members from the Houses of Parliament and the Church. Considering that over 8,000 individuals attended the Queen’s service in 1953, the number of people invited to the coronation is actually rather minimal.
People hilarious memes
In the UK, a new monarch was recently crowned, but everyone on the internet is making memes of King Charles coronation ceremony.
As soon as the King Charles coronation ceremony started and Charles and Camilla were seated, memes started to circulate quickly. Charles giving a speech off a sheet of paper became one of the day’s most popular memes.
It provided the ideal setting for some funny jokes.
First spouse of King Charles III
Diana was King Charles III’s first wife and the mother of Prince William and Prince Harry. Prince Charles’ marriage to Lady Diana Spencer appears as a striking example of “coulda woulda shoulda,” starting with the realization that Camilla Parker Bowles was Charles’ ex-girlfriend and present wife.
Charles and Diana’s relationship was never perfect from the beginning. Only a few dates had passed when 32-year-old Charles proposed to Diana, then 19, in 1981. In actuality, they had only ever met 13 times before their wedding. Charles was romantically involved with Diana’s sister, Sarah, before that. There is a quote from Diana in which she says that everyone in the world likes me except the one person whom I like.
