People expect women to adhere to a dress code in the educational system, as demonstrated by the schoolgirl who was sent home from a British Columbia high school.
Of course, this subject isn’t limited to high schools. People everywhere expect women to wear a certain way and to convey a certain message if they choose to dress differently. The question is why these girls are being sexualized simply for wearing clothing that makes them feel at ease to attend school. Because teachers will likely feel uncomfortable due to their inner demons if their knees are revealing, God forbid.
The Circumstance
Senior at Norkam Senior Secondary schoolgirls with a lot of cleavages when you read about the broken dress code. Unfortunately, the schoolgirl who was sent home didn’t even show her shoulders. Karis did not break any dress code rules. She was wearing a black knee-length dress with a turtleneck that covers her neck, arms, and chest. The student did NOTHING wrong!
Where in the world does this justify humiliating a student and depriving them of their education for a day? I think it’s ridiculous. Teachers should set an example for their kids and always be there for them, not make them feel bad.
According to a site, the experience does not affect her academic performance as she enrolled in a university in Alberta and is prepared to move past it.
Furious Father’s Reaction
When her father Christopher came to know that she had been expelled from the school and went on Facebook Live to share the news. More than 100,000 people watched the Live in total.
She wasn’t wearing it sexually, according to Christopher. She wasn’t drawing attention by wearing it. Typically dresses in a hoodie and track trousers.
She was unable to be active for a time due to a snowboarding injury she experienced a month or two ago. She had begun attending the gym and felt more confident.
Her father claimed that she only donned the garment to feel confident in herself.
“This is how they reacted the one day she decided to wear a dress and feel good about herself,” he continued.
Live Viewers Reaction
Karis stayed home for over a week, and viewers of Christopher’s Live started harassing the school. Karis, however, became more anxious about going back to school and worried about what she would wear.
Her dad stated: “The emphasis shifted from pursuing education to thinking more about what to dress to class. She replied, “Dad, I don’t know what to dress for school,” after having missed more than a week of class.”
Karis Concerns about her Dressing
According to Christopher, her daughter talked about the things she would wear and her concerns about how others would judge her.
Added him: “She continued, “Dad if I wear nothing but my track pants and a hoodie if I wear something cozy, am I conforming?” Am I trying to rub it in their faces if I dress in something that makes me feel beautiful?”
She was able to complete her high school education at home and attend her graduation in person with her pals since she refused to go back to school. Even if she had the option to go back, Christopher’s daughter wouldn’t change anything, he claimed.
Karis’ 19th Birthday
Christopher recently shared a heartfelt tribute in honor of Karis Wilson’s 19th birthday, saying: “Karis Wilson, you are gorgeous, resilient, brilliant, caring, funny, and most of all, I just adore being around you. Happy 19th birthday, my love.
Fortunately, her classmates and the internet supported her. In solidarity with her, her classmates organized a brief walkout. The signs carried by the students were displaying the following messages: “I am not my dress,” “My education is more important than what I wear,” and “Am I detracting you with my midriff?”
Others expressed their support on Twitter.
Final Video of Christopher
Christopher appears to agree with the statement. He said in his final video:
“TEACHERS, IF YOU’RE DISTRACTED BY THE CLOTHES YOUR STUDENTS WEAR, YOU’RE IN THE WRONG PROFESSION. PERHAPS YOU SHOULD TRY NEW THINGS.”
Naturally, there were a few voices who supported the teacher.
Wrapping Up
A review of the choice has been started. Dr. Terry Sullivan, the school’s principal, released the following statement:
The incident involving a grade 12 student and the dress code at Norkam Secondary on February 23, 2021, has been reported to School District No. 73 (KAMLOOPS-THOMPSON). We comprehend the parent’s concern over what transpired to his daughter yesterday at school.
WE TAKE THESE ALLEGATIONS SERIOUSLY AND ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THEM. RIGHT NOW, WE ARE EVALUATING THE INCIDENT. WE WILL NOT SPECIFICALLY COMMENT ON THE INCIDENT. WE WANT TO WORK WITH PARENTS FOR THE BEST RESULTS FOR THE STUDENT WHEN THEY ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR CHILD AT SCHOOL.
The end of the review is unknown.
