Netflix horror Don’t Listen
One of the best movies that debuted on Netflix on November 27 is Don’t Listen (Voces). Jump scares abound in this Spanish horror movie, which has ghosts, and witches, and even digs into Spain’s shadowy past. In the United Kingdom’s Top 10 Films on Netflix, the movie is already ranked ninth.
Since it recently appeared on Netflix, this Spanish horror film has been giving many chills. Some have even dubbed it a remake of “The Conjuring”. With its chilling jump scares and spooky story, Voces, also known as Don’t Listen in English, has made viewers’ blood run cold. Even subscribers were warned “not to watch” it by themselves.
It’s hardly surprising that the 2020 Spanish horror and supernatural movie, directed by Angel Gómez Hernández, is terrifying audiences. It won prizes from the Asociación de Escritores Cinematográficos de Andalucí (ASECAN) for best work and best makeup and hairstyles, respectively.
The spooky story
Don’t Listen is a haunted house horror movie with a plot that will make you think of Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House, directed by Angel Gómez Hernández. He also co-wrote the script with Santiago Dáz, Juan Moreno, and Victor Gado. You’ll appreciate this movie if a lot of jump scares are your thing. There is one moment in particular that you will undoubtedly dislike if you love cats.
The story centers on Daniel and Sara, who, unaware that their new neighbors ominously refer to it as “the house of the voices,” moved into their idyllic new home with their nine-year-old son, Eric.
To support himself, Daniel primarily depends on house flipping . But, Daniel’s son Eric (Lucas Blas) is ready for them to relocate to a new home. Eric continues to hear voices. A child psychologist has been called to visit Eric by Daniel and his wife, Sara (Belén Fabra).
She reassures him, but Eric responds that the voices are keeping him up. The expert tells Daniel and Sara that it might be because of the stress of traveling so frequently, but dismisses this as just having a lot of imagination.
Death of Eric
The voices are still upsetting Eric. And then, mysteriously, the small child is found drowned in the pool. After knowing of their son’s passing, Sara leaves the house. But, Daniel chooses to remain and finish the house. Daniel seeks the assistance of paranormal investigator Germán (Ramón Barea) after hearing his son’s voice pleading for aid in a voicemail he sent to Sara.
To record the house’s sounds and visuals, Germán arrives at the house with his daughter Ruth (Ana Fernández) and a ton of equipment. Their investigation will take them to Spain’s dark past, including the Inquisition’s use of torture and the murder of women accused of being witches. Germán and his daughter Ruth become somewhat more fascinating characters when their pasts are revealed. Some people said these two should be the movie’s main characters.
The back story regarding the Inquisition is what makes this story particularly intriguing. During this fascinatingly tragic period in Spain’s history, the Catholic Church persecuted everyone it considered to be a heretic. Yet, it’s sad how the movie handles this aspect of history.
Don’t watch alone
Social media users have been using the platform to alert other viewers about the movie. One user tweeted: “Don’t watch alone, advice!” Very eerie, but Excellent!
Another person said: “Don’t listen on Netflix = extremely good suspense/horror.” Another person wrote: “I have just scared the crap out of myself watching #Don’t Listen on Netflix — it’s like a Spanish remake of The Conjuring! It is” Very amazing and well worth seeing.” While another person said: “Wow! This film is spooky! It’s fantastic!
The movie’s director, Ángel Gómez Hernández, told ReachExtra that Don’t Listen is the movie with which he “always dreamed” of making his directorial debut. He declared: “This is the kind of movie I’ve always wanted to be able to direct, because of the plot, the script, the cast, and the fact that this scary film lacks complications. “I would have signed it without a doubt if they had informed me 15 years ago that it would be my debut.”
Final Words
Ghosts are the subject of the scary film Don’t Listen. It is a fantastic first movie that makes use of all the well-known haunted house horror movie clichés. Eric’s death is the subject of an intriguing mystery. Although the tale is engaging, it does not quite come together in the end. This film may have a sequel, in which Germán and his daughter Ruth solve yet another spooky case.
