Although American actor Dave Bautista has played a wide variety of characters throughout his career, he no longer believes he is capable of playing Batman’s foe Bane. The 54-year-old actor still has a long career ahead of him and is currently combining appearances in films like Glass Onion while playing Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel universe.
With his next role in M. Night Shyamalan’s horror-mystery Knock At The Cabin, Bautista is extending his acting career even further. However, despite demonstrating his comfort in roles involving mystery, violence, and evil, Bautista doesn’t want to play a supervillain.
New Actor as Bane
After James Gunn took over the universe at Warner Bros, DC may soon be looking for a new actor to play Bane. Tom Hardy is an American actor who has already played the character. Bautista disclosed he had previously spoken with Gunn about the idea of playing Bane, with Henry Cavill’s shocking exit from Superman signaling a significant makeover of the ensemble in the DC universe.
It is already discussed before Gunn took control of DC operations, but Bautista thinks the course Gunn is now likely to take would rule him out of contention.
Dave Bautista Statements
The Guardians of the Galaxy actor said in a statement to Insider: “I have talked to James about that, but I believe the way he’s leaning in, completely resetting the entire universe, he’s starting from scratch, and I think you need to do that.
The American actor continued, “I think you need to start from scratch and I think you need to start with younger performers for the rejuvenation of the DC Universe. I just don’t think you can do that with me. You need to start making plans for the next 15 years. And I recognize that.
The actor added that he doesn’t “want to portray a character that he can’t bring justice to,” making it apparent that it’s more than simply Gunn’s vision that would preclude him from playing Bane.
He said, “I don’t think I can bring justice to Bane anymore at this stage in my career.” “Simply put, I’m not sure if I could handle the physical aspect, and I doubt I’d have the stamina to schedule films in advance. I simply doubt that I would be that guy.”
Back in 2021, American actor Bautista disclosed that he had informed Warner Bros. that he wanted to be the next actor to take on the role of Batman’s fiercest adversary.
At JusticeCon, the celebrity said, “I’ve made no secret about this (via Collider). “I went to Warner Bros., made an appointment with them and one with DC, and stepped in the door declaring, “I want to play Bane.” I want to play Bane so badly. I am not joking. They seemed a little shocked that Bane hadn’t yet been cast. “I don’t care, I’m playing him,” I said.” Things at Warner Bros. and DC Studios have altered significantly.
DC Studios by Warner Bros
Gunn and producer Peter Safran were named co-CEOs and co-chairs of DC Studios by Warner Bros. Discovery in October. Since then, there have been numerous stories of projects and characters from the previous administration getting entirely reworked, with Henry Cavill’s departure from the role of Superman being the most significant. Bane’s last on-screen appearance was in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises” in 2012. Tom Hardy played the mask-wearing villain who delights in breaking Batman’s back; Nolan claimed that this part hasn’t yet been “completely understood.”
The “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise, in which American actor Bautista also starred as Drax the Destroyer, was directed by Gunn, who is best known for that work, for Disney/Marvel. In 2021, Warner Bros/DC released “The Suicide Squad,” which Gunn also directed.
Gunn tweeted in November on the studio’s future priorities: “Our primary focus is on the story going forward, hammering out the new DCU, & creating the Biggest Story Ever Told across numerous films, television shows, & animated projects.”
Wrapping Up
There has been a lot of uncertainty about what the cosmos will eventually include. They are reassuring fans that Jason Momoa and Zachary Levi are still in their respective roles. With the standalone franchises of The Batman and Joker movies, there will also be distinct Batman universes. However, sequels to Black Adam and Wonder Woman have been abandoned, while Superman is getting a makeover. We can anticipate seeing American actor Bautista demolish some stuff in Guardians of the Galaxy 3 even though we might not see him face off against a new Batman any time soon.
